The second biennial meeting of the Philosophy of Animal Minds and Behavior Association will be held at the University of California, Santa Barbara, April 24-26 2025. The deadline for submissions is Feb 3. Please see the CFP for details. We are planning an exciting three days of talks and events, including a tour of the Coal Oil Point Natural Reserve to learn about the plovers nesting there and other residents.
Keynote speakers are:
Dorit Bar-On (University of Connecticut)
Laura Danón (National University of Córdoba)
Simon Fitzpatrick (John Carroll University)
Mark Rowlands (University of Miami)
All events will be held on the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Hotels
A block of hotel rooms is available for you to reserve at the Hilton Garden Inn, Goleta. Goleta is the incorporated area closest to the university. There will be a shuttle van operating on a first-come first-served basis between the Hilton and meeting sites, but these are also connected by the city bus.
If you prefer to stay on campus, there is limited availability because the university is in session. The only option is the Faculty Club and Guesthouse but availability is extremely limited. Close to campus and to the conference hotel is the Marriott Courtyard in Goleta. Downtown Santa Barbara is about ten miles away and has numerous accommodation options. Bus service is available between Downtown and UCSB.
Getting to Santa Barbara
The Santa Barbara Airport (SBA) is less than a mile from campus and a couple of miles from the hotel, with direct flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento, Portland, Seattle, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Denver, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Atlanta.
The Los Angeles airport (LAX) is about 90 miles away. The Santa Barbara Airbus connects LAX to Santa Barbara and Goleta.
The Pacific Surfliner train stops in Santa Barbara and Goleta serving various points from San Diego and Los Angeles to the south and San Luis Obispo to the north. The Coast Starlight train provides service as far north as Seattle.
More information
Stay tuned for more information about registration and conference activities! We will also be listing local attractions, including wine tours and whale/dolphin tours, soon. These extra activities are mostly full-day affairs so you may want to plan on spending an extra day or two in the area should you wish to sample all that “the American Riviera” has to offer.
