April 17 update: The PROVISIONAL SCHEDULE is now posted; full program coming soon!

The second biennial meeting of the Philosophy of Animal Minds and Behavior Association will be held at the University of California, Santa Barbara, April 24-26 2025. The deadline for submissions was Feb 3 and notifications were sent out in early March. We have arranged an exciting three days of talks and events, including a tour of the Coal Oil Point Natural Reserve to learn about the plovers nesting there and other residents.

Keynote speakers are:

All events will be held on the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara. On Thursday and Saturday we will be in Corwin Pavilion at the UCEN building. On Friday we will be off the main campus at at the West Conference Center. If you plan to attend please let us know by registering. Registration is free. The guided tour and dinner on Friday are initially restricted to presenters and ticket holders only, but we will accommodate as many as we can if there are slots available.

Hotels

The block of hotel rooms at conference rate is no longer available for you to reserve but you may still be able to get a room at the Hilton Garden Inn, Goleta. Goleta is the incorporated area closest to the university. There will be a shuttle van operating on a first-come first-served basis between the Hilton and meeting sites, but these are also connected by the city bus.

If you prefer to stay on campus, there is limited availability because the university is in session. The only option is the Faculty Club and Guesthouse but availability is extremely limited. Close to campus and to the conference hotel is the Marriott Courtyard in Goleta. Downtown Santa Barbara is about ten miles away and has numerous accommodation options. Bus service is available between Downtown and UCSB.

Getting to Santa Barbara

The Santa Barbara Airport (SBA) is less than a mile from campus and a couple of miles from the hotel, with direct flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento, Portland, Seattle, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Denver, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Atlanta.

The Los Angeles airport (LAX) is about 90 miles away. The Santa Barbara Airbus connects LAX to Santa Barbara and Goleta.

The Pacific Surfliner train stops in Santa Barbara and Goleta serving various points from San Diego and Los Angeles to the south and San Luis Obispo to the north. The Coast Starlight train provides service as far north as Seattle.

More information

See the local attractions page for information about wine tours, whale & dolphin tours and other local attractions. Some of these extra activities are multi-hour events, so you may want to plan on spending an extra day or two in the area should you wish to sample all that “the American Riviera” has to offer.
